Utah Global Diplomacy | Salt Lake City, Utah
January 2020 - March 2023
Youth Program Director
August 2020 - March 2023
Utah Global Diplomacy (formerly Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy) is guided by the principle of Citizen Diplomacy - the idea that all people have the right and responsibility to guide foreign relations 'one handshake at a time.' Founded in the 1960s, UCCD's small team leads U.S. Department of State IVLP exchanges, a lecture series, a high school certification program, the administration of a college scholarship, and other programs related to global affairs.
One of my responsibilities as Youth Program Director was to oversee the launch of the Global Leaders Scholarship Fund (GLSF) in partnership with former Salt Lake City mayor Jackie Biskupski, Chris Redgrave, and Baldomero Lago. This scholarship program seeks to identify emerging leaders attending Utah's colleges and universities and empower them to engage in critical international conversations by attending conferences and events. I began leading GLSF during the first few months of its' inception, and I built the foundational processes and frameworks for the operation of the scholarship. I also led the scholarship through three cycles of applications and award. I joined the first scholarship trip as a Trip Leader to Manchester, England, United Kingdom in 2022. Additionally, I was responsible for interfacing with the Scholarship Committee, which operated much like a Board of Directors.
Another of my responsibilities was to manage the Young Diplomats of Utah high school program. This included leading the year-long high school leadership program, which brought ~30 students from across the state annually. In this program, students would participate in diplomacy simulations, hear from guest speakers, and complete individual projects on their way to achieving the Young Diplomats of Utah Leadership Certificate. Additionally, 25 teams of high school students participated in the annual Academic WorldQuest trivia competition, which I planned and implemented.
The final piece of Utah Diplomacy's youth programming that I was responsible for was our programs for young adults. I spearheaded a pilot of the Citizen Diplomacy Certification, a course for young professionals interested in carees in international relations. Additionally, I was responsible for the management of UCCD's interns and fellows.
Finally, I launched the International Youth Summit, an annual conference hosted in Salt Lake Valley for young people interested in local activism with a global impact. This event drew hundreds of young people and provided a space to learn and network related to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Program Officer; IVLP Exchange
January 2020 - August 2020
As a Program Officer at UCCD, I implemented U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) exchanges in the state of Utah. In addition to planning accommodations, transportation, professional meetings, and the itineraries for IVLP projects, I also met the groups to introduce them to Utah.
When travel was shut down due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, I innovated new, virtual exchange opportunities between the people of Utah and the rest of the world, many ideas of which were adopted by other members of the national Global Ties network.

Make America Dinner Again, Austin Texas
Chapter Head
March 2019 - December 2020
Make America Dinner Again (MADA) is a volunteer-run organization with the mission of healing political and social divisions in America by facilitating healthy discussions with diverse strangers over dinner. With the support of MADA creators Justine and Tria, I founded the Central Texas MADA chapter in early 2019, one of 9 chapters across the country.
As Chapter Head, I organize and host regular dinners with 6-10 unique strangers, balancing factors like race, gender, age, class, sexual orientation, and political affiliations. My goal is to best create a microcosm of the United States across the dinner table. The only thing attendees have in common is a desire to demonstrate openness, compassion, and courage by coming together- we all win with broader discourse and understanding.
